Mega Millions: Overview
The Big Game Mega Millions was a short-lived rebranding of The Big Game, a US multi-jurisdictional lotto jackpot game that was first introduced in 1996 under the name The Big Game. It will be accessible starting on January 30, 2020, in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
This lottery happened in 2002. All variants of Mega Millions now display a gold ball with six stars to signify the game’s founding membership following the game’s name, The Big Game, being retired. Some lotteries, however, emblazoned the Ball with their logo. Six states were the first to offer the game.
It has achieved the second spot on our list between 2012 and 2016, its $65,6 Crore jackpot held the record for the largest jackpot ever. Not only that, but by awarding a single ticket holder $153,7 Crore in 2018, the lottery broke the individual record previously held by Powerball!

Mega Millions: How To Play?
Each game ticket play costs $2.
The option to choose Easy Pick/Quick Pick or to choose six numbers from two independent pools of numbers—five different numbers between 1 and 70 (the white balls) and one between 1 and 25 (the gold Mega Ball)—is available to players. After matching every one of the six winning numbers in a drawing, you win the jackpot.
The beginning jackpot will change depending on sales and will be disclosed before each drawing until further notice.
To win the lottery there are 9 ways, with prizes ranging from the jackpot to $2.
Imagine Winning the Mega Millions lottery
Option for annuities – The lottery’s annuity pays out in 29 annual instalments after one initial payout. Every payment is 5% larger than the one before it. By doing this, winners’ lifestyles and spending power are preserved throughout inflationary times.
Check out more details about the annuity choice.
Cash option: An upfront payment in the amount of the whole games jackpot reward pool.
Mega Millions – Win and Play
The lottery’s drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 p.m. ET. Incase the numbers on one row of your ticket match the balls drawn on that date, you win. The set of balls with numbers 1 through 70 are used to draw five white balls, while a set of balls with numbers 1 through 25 are used to draw one gold Mega Ball.
From $2 to the jackpot, nine different methods exist to win a prize. The winning chances are 1 in 24. If no one gains the jackpot, the money is added to the lotto for the next drawing.
In 46 of the game’s 47 jurisdictions, players of the game can use the Megaplier multiplier, which functions similarly to Powerball’s Power Play, except that Power Play only allows for a 2x second-prize multiplier.
Because the state penal code in California differentiates between a “lottery” during which the bank cannot be “broken” and a “banked game” in which the bank theoretically may be “broken,” neither Megaplier nor Power Play is available there. Only a “lottery” was permitted under the state Lottery Act.
A player can increase any non-jackpot reward by 2, 3, 4, or 5 by adding $1 to a $3 basic Mega Millions game. The Texas Lottery uses a random number generator to choose the winner of the Megaplier.
Mega Millions: Payment Choices and Prize Claims
New Jersey and Texas players must decide in advance whether they want to receive their jackpot to be paid as a lump sum or as an annuity. If a winner in New Jersey qualifies for a jackpot, they can convert an annuity ticket to cash; in Texas, the decision is final.
Although the 60-day “clock” in Florida begins with the drawing in which the jackpot prize was won, the other Mega Millions participants permit the cash/annuity choice to be made after winning (often 60 days after claiming the ticket).
Each of the 46 participants gets their money back if a jackpot award is not claimed within the allotted period in the relevant jurisdiction. There are regulations for unclaimed rewards in every 46 lotteries; most players reserve unclaimed money for educational reasons.
